【Casual English - 隨興英語】

隨興英語 (021) - get wind of something – 聽到…的風聲;得知…秘密消息

to get wind of something means to hear a rumer or find out some part of  a secret

When you get wind of something,
you really don't have a lot of information,
just a very little bit of information,
just enough to give you a hint about what might be happening. Now I will give you 2 examples sentences. Number one. The moment you get wind of any news, call me. #2. Media got wind of her friend's plan for a surprise birthday party.
OK, so get wind of something to hear a rumor or find out part of a secret.
Thank you for watching. I will see you next time. Bye bye.

Get wind of something.
This is to hear news about something that's secret.
If the media gets wind of the political scandal, they are going to be talking about it for days.

Well, what's your biggest fish? I mean, to your mind, who's who's your whale? Nike women's division. You heard they were shopping. I got wind of it. That's amazing. I heard no one knew. Get wind of it. To hear a piece of information that someone else was trying to keep secret. Examples. Look, Eddie, I'm doing this for you if the IRS gets wind of your rainy day fund. They could make me testify against you. I was really excited to write something up. But then Marshall, who's technically my supervisor, got wind of it and it wasn't a huge fan of the idea. Tell them we'll get a theater. Let me worry about that. If they get wind of this, they'll back out. I'm not going to get wind of anything. Just aim your ass in another direction.

Ohh jeez. Didn't take the media long to get wind of this. Make sure no one contaminates my crime scene.

English in a Minute – Get Wind of Something:听到某事的风声

Welcome to English in a Minute from home.

The wind blows many things, papers, leaves, hair.

But the wind can blow other things, too. Secret things.

I have news. Cara is getting married next weekend.

Uh-oh.

Uh-oh? Why uh-oh?

My friend Delonte still loves Cara.

When he gets wind of this, he's going to be heartbroken.

Wow.

To "get wind of something" means to learn secret or important information in an indirect way.

In the wild, many animals get information from the wind, too, like smells and sounds of other animals.

And that's English in a Minute!

English in a Minute - Get Wind of Something:
