不定詞是指動詞的 "原式"，通常前面會有個 to。

卻扮演著名詞、形容詞、或副詞的角色。
【例如】
He decided to marry her.
他決定和她結婚。
不定詞 to marry 仍然具有動詞的特性，它可以有受詞 her。
不定詞片語 "to marry her" 扮演著名詞的角色，作為動詞 decided 的受詞。
I hope to get a job soon.
我希望能盡快找到工作。
不定詞 to get 不但可以有受詞 a job， 還可以被副詞 soon 所修飾；不定詞片語 "to get a job soon" 作為動詞 hope 的受詞。
He came to see you.
他是來看你的。
不定詞 to see 可以有受詞 you，
不定詞片語 "to see you"，當副詞使用，
修飾動詞 came，表示他來的原因是為了見到你。
【high 當副詞的例句】
You need to hit the ball quite high to get it over the net.
你得把球打地相當高才能過網。
