It may allude to a coin toss, since as long as the coin is still in the air, the outcome is unknown.

Eg: When the teacher explained the theory everything was as clear as day.

If a fact, situation, or statement is plain, it is easy to recognize or understand.

Plain as day. This is something that's obvious to see. It's plain as day that she loves you. Why don't you ask her on a date?

So what do we have for today? 

Well, today's idiom is 

plain as day.

What does that mean? Well, it means very clear. 

For example,

Secret Service will walk him out of the building. And then January 6 happened, said, oh hold on, he didn't leave and he did incite an armed insurrection. 2024 is going to make 2020 like a walk in the park if Trump's the candidate and he loses.
