【30 most commonly used English phrases】

【04 - It's about time】

'It's about time!' is a stronger way of saying 'finally'. It shows you've been waiting a very long time for something.
"是時候了!" 是表達 “finally” 的更強有力的方式。 它表明你已經為某事等待了很長時間。

'It's about time!' means that it's the right time to do something that you have been waiting for it for some long .
You use it when the situation is getting out of hands and you have to do something about, so you say It's high time or you can say it's about time they are the same.
"是時候了!" 意味著現在正是做「您已經等待了很長時間」的某事的最佳時機。 當情況失控並且你必須做點什麼時,你會使用它,所以,你說 "It's high time",或者 "It's about time",這二種說法意思是一樣的。

【English sentence pattern】

It is (high/about) time that S + Ved...

This sentence pattern has a hypothetical mood, which means "it's time to do something", and is used to emphasize that something or an action "should have happened long ago". The verb tense in the that clause should use the past tense, indicating that the action "should be done but not yet done", and that can be omitted. You can use high or about before time to strengthen the tone of "should have...".

此句型帶有假設語氣,意思是「是時候該做某事」,用來強調某事或動作「早該」發生了。that 子句中的動詞時態應使用過去式,表示行為「該做而尚未做」,且 that 可省。time 之前可使用 high 或 about加強「早該…」的語氣。

【Example sentences】

It's time that you went to bed. It's already past midnight!
你該上床睡覺了,都已經過了午夜!

Oliver's flight is tonight, so it's about time that he finished packing.
奧力佛的班機就在今晚,所以他早該打包好行李了。

The workers are on strike because they think it's high time that they were given a raise.
工人們在罷工,因為他們認為自己早該被加薪了。

【vocabulary】

adhere  [ədˈhɪr] v. 粘著,依附

The English vocabulary structure is basically based on the root, and then it is formed by adding prefixes or suffixes as needed.
英語字彙結構基本上以字根為主,再視需要添加字首或字尾而形成。
English is basically a kind of phonology. Unlike Chinese, English vocabulary doesn't change due to pictograms, but it is deformed due to the needs of pronunciation.
This is true for the root; it is also true for the prefix or suffix.
For the root is true, the same is true for the auxiliary prefix or suffix.
英語基本上是一種音韻學,不同於中文,英文字彙不因象形而改變,卻因發音的需要而有所變形,字根如此;作為輔助的字首或字尾,亦然。
"Her" as a word, represents the female third person singular accusative pronoun or possessive case; but "her" can actually be used as a root in a word, and "her" can be found in many words.
"Her" 作為單字,表女性第三人稱單數受格代名詞或所有格;但 "her" 在單字當中其實還可以作為字根使用,在許多單字當中可以找得到 "her" 的身影。
The root "her" or its variants "here", "hes", means stick. We can easily find the root "her" in the word "adhere". The prefix "ad" of the word "adhere" means "toward", and then add the deformation "here" of the root "her", It emphasizes sticking together, so the single word "adhere" means sticking and attaching.
字根 "her" 或其變形 "here"、"hes",表示粘附(stick)。我們在單字 "adhere" 中很容易就找到了字根 "her" 的身影,單字 "adhere" 的字首 "ad" 表示 "toward",然後再加上字根 "her" 的變形 "here",強調粘附在一起,故單字 "adhere" 表示粘著,依附。
Of course, this is its verb form. If the noun suffix "ence" is added to it, it indicates the "adherence" of the noun form, and derives the meaning of "strict adherence to belief".
當然這個是它的動詞形式,如果在後面加上名詞後綴 "ence" 就表示了名詞形式的 "adherence" 粘附,而衍生出 "嚴守信念" 的意義。
Of course, it can also connect different noun suffixes to express subtle differences in meaning. For example, connecting the suffix of "ent" to represent "character" becomes the word "adherent" representing "disciple or supporter". Furthermore, if the noun suffix "ion" is connected, it becomes the word adhesion, which means adhesion, and then leads to the meaning of "persistence".
當然它還可以銜接不同的名詞後綴表達出細微的含義差別。比如銜接 "ent" 表 "人物" 的後綴,就變成了單詞 "adherent" 表 "門徒或支持者",再者,若銜接 "ion" 這個名詞後綴就變成了表粘附力的單字 adhesion,進而引申出 "堅持" 這個含意。

adherent [ədˈhɪrənt] adj. 黏性的,n. 門徒

以字首 -ad 和字根 -her 組成的動詞單字 "adhere" 可以銜接不同的後綴表達出細微的含義差別。
字尾-ent, 主要當「形容詞」字尾。若轉當名詞,則通常表示「人」的意思。
因此,單字 "adherent" ,當「形容詞」使用時,表 "黏性的";"黏著的";"附著的"。例如:
an adherent surface
黏性表面
單字 "adherent" ,當「名詞」使用時,表 "信仰者";"門徒";"追隨者"。
例如:
The proposal is gaining more and more adherents.
該建議得到越來越多的支持者。

Dignity: A Fundamental Principle
尊嚴:一種基礎的原則
Dignity. It's a word that carries immense weight.
It's the very essence of who we are as human beings.
It's the quality that sets us apart from all other creatures on this planet.
Dignity is the fundamental principle that we all deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of our race, gender, religion, or social status.
It's what gives us the courage to stand up for ourselves and demand equality.
But too often, dignity is denied to those who need it most.
People are discriminated against based on their appearance or background.
They are made to feel inferior or unworthy because of their circumstances.
They are stripped of their dignity in ways big and small, leaving them feeling powerless and alone.
We must remember that dignity is not just a right; it is a responsibility that we all share.
We must strive to treat each other with kindness and compassion, to recognize the inherent worth of every person we meet.
We must stand up against injustice and discrimination, and work together to create a world where everyone can live with dignity.
So let us embrace this fundamental principle: that every human being deserves to be treated with respect and honor.
Let us stand together in solidarity, united by our shared commitment to uphold the dignity of all people everywhere.
Because when we do so, we can truly make the world a better place for everyone.

Traits and Betrayal
In human society, traits are characteristics or attributes that define a person's nature or behavior.
These can be physical, emotional, or intellectual.
Positive traits like honesty, loyalty, and kindness are valued and admired by all.
However, there are individuals who exhibit negative traits like deceitfulness, disloyalty and betrayal. These people are known as traitors.
A traitor is someone who betrays their own country, group or cause by cooperating with the enemy or opposing forces.
They break the trust of those who rely on them and cause harm to others.
In history, traitors have been responsible for great tragedies and disasters.
But not all betrayal is on such a grand scale.
In our everyday lives, we may encounter people who show signs of being a traitor in their personal relationships or workplace.
It is important to recognize these traits early on to prevent any potential harm.
Therefore, it is essential to cultivate positive traits and be aware of those who exhibit negative ones.
By doing so we can build stronger communities and avoid being hurt by traitors in our personal lives or even on a larger scale in society as a whole.
