'Make believe' means "pretend" and is usually used with that clause after 'believe', for example: 
He made believe that he was a good boy. 
= He pretended that he was a good boy. 
(他假裝他是個好男孩。)

The compound word make-believe can be used as a noun.
合成詞 make-believe 當名詞使用。

She's living in a world of make-believe.
她生活在一個虛構的世界裡。


合成詞 make-believe 當形容詞使用。

He was firing a make-believe gun at the spy planes.
他正在向間諜飛機發射假槍。

omission of that

When a noun clause introduced by that is the object, that can be omitted.
由 that 引導的名詞子句做受詞時,可以省略 that。

Let's make believe (that) we're pirates.

idioms】《to make sure》

'Make sure' is usually used in two ways:

1. Used in imperative sentences, usually translated as "must".

Example:
 
Make sure that the door is locked when you leave. 
= Make sure to lock the door when you leave. 
= Be sure to lock the door when you leave.
Be sure to lock the door when leaving.
 
'Make sure' 通常有二種用法:
1. 原形 make 用在命令句中,通常譯成 「務必」。
例句:
Make sure that the door is locked when you leave.
= Make sure to lock the door when you leave.
= Be sure to lock the door when you leave.
(離開時,務必把門鎖上。) 

2. 'make sure' can be used in the past tense, usually with a person as the subject, meaning "sure". 
2. 'make sure' 可以用過去式,通常以人為主,意為「確定」。

Example:

I made sure that he had done it.
(我確定他已完成那件工作。)

He made believe that he was an expert, but in fact, he was a layman.
他假裝自己是專家,但實際上他是外行。

Make sure to turn off the radio before you go out.
出門前一定要關掉收音機。

He told me to make sure to call him at exactly three o'clock.
他叫我一定要在三點整給他打電話。

To make sure of something is to be certain of it.
確保某件事是確定的。
